Washer/dryer combos, laundry centers, and stackable machines are excellent laundry solutions for residents of urban apartments and condominiums where space can be a problem. However, there are some people who are not familiar with the distinctions among the three. Washer/dryer combos do their washing and drying in one tub, while the other two consists of two separate machines, with on placed over the other. They differ only in their construction. In laundry centers, the two machines are permanently fixed together, while stackable machines consist of a washer designed to support the weight of a separate dryer. Unlike the laundry center, the washer and dryer of the stackable appliances can be separated.
One example of a stackable washer and dryer is the Thor Apex Model WDAP290 Washer and Dryer. This model, with its footprint of a shade less than 2 square feet, does what is was designed to do –save space. The combined height of the two appliances reaches 65 inches.
Both the washer and dryer are front-loading. The washer has a wide circular door frame bordering a clear glass window. This provides a view into the stainless steel tub and your clothes as they tumble up and down in soapy and sudsy water. The door of the dryer is an irregular square as its bottom protrudes in a convex.
Featuring as many as 10 wash cycles, the Thor Apex is suited for all kinds of fabrics at different levels of soiling. For cotton, the cycles include pre-wash, normal, spin, rinse, and quick express. Synthetic fabrics have only normal and quick express rinse. Delicates have normal, spin, and rinse. Drying, on the other hand, includes three dry cycles.
The control panels of the washer and dryer, being two separate machines, are also separate. They are mounted at the upper ends and regulate all the functions of their respective machines.
Finished in acrylic white, the Thor Apex Model WDAP290 Washer and Dryer look immaculate and clean. The paint actually helps resists nicks and dents.
