The first electric washer is the Thor Washing Machine. Designed by Alva J. Fisher, it was built in 1907 featuring a perforated cylinder that rotated within a bigger tub which was filled with detergent and water. Blades mounted on the cylinder lifted the clothes as it rotated and after eight rotations in one direction, it turned the other way.
Over a hundred years later, the technology is still in use in the Thor WD 10000 Washer Dryer Combo, as it is in most, if not all, washing machines of other brands and models. However, the WD 10000 incorporates plenty of improvements over the original.
The WD 10000 is a washer dryer combo wherein clothes are washed and dried in the same tub. This means you do not need a separate dryer which only takes up more space. Although it may have virtually the same footprint as the stackable versions, the latter takes up vertical space which could be used for wall-mounted storage cabinets.
The washer is front-loading allowing it to be installed underneath kitchen counters. It has a round glass door enclosed by a steel frame. This opens to a stainless steel perforated cylinder with a washing capacity of 14.5 pounds or 2.3 cu. ft. It has a maximum spin speed of 1,200 RPM with an electronically regulated load-balance control.
Featuring eight wash cycles, you can wash your cottons, synthetics, as well as your more delicate fabrics as wool and cashmere in the machine. For your cottons you can choose from pre-wash, normal, and quick-express; for synthetics, your choices are normal and quick-express; while for delicates you only have normal. All three have settings for rinse and spin.
The dryer uses a ventless drying system with three dry cycles. Hot air is forced through the washed clothes which absorbs water from them. The air is eventually cooled, water is condensed in the tub and drained out of the machine.
The footprint of the Thor WD 10000 Washer Dryer Combo is small, measuring only 23.625 inches square. Its height of 33.437 allows it to fit below most kitchen counters.
